Early Reassurance Scan / Dating Scan

At Miracle View, our reassurance scan or dating scan as it is also known, is performed by one of our experienced midwife sonographers and is designed to offer peace of mind for you and your family. A pregnancy can be seen as early as 7 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period. From undertaking this scan, we can provide important information about the development of your baby including a visual detection of your baby’s heartbeat. Based on ultrasound measurements, we can also estimate when your baby is due to make an appearance.
From our vast experience as midwife sonographers, we recognise the importance of offering friendly relaxed informative consultations. We will always be responsive to any questions and aim to help to alleviate any anxieties regarding your pregnancy and your baby.
GP / Midwife referral not required.
A full bladder is advisable for scans in early pregnancy so please drink some water prior to your appointment.
It is recommended that this scan is performed no earlier than 2 weeks after a positive pregnancy test (at least 6-weeks pregnant) as if performed too early, the pregnancy may be too small to see on scan.
Sometimes a pregnancy still in the early stages of gestation can be difficult to see through your tummy and so an internal scan (called a transvaginal scan) may be offered, but it will be your choice if you would like to accept this.

If you want to know your baby’s gender, it can be revealed at the time of your scan or kept a secret for a gender reveal of your choice. Please inform the Sonographer of your preference at the beginning of the scan.
Sometimes babies may be in a position that makes it difficult to see the gender of your little one. You will be advised to change position or move around to encourage your baby to get into a better position. If this still does not happen, you will be offered a further scan free of charge.
It may be helpful if you have eaten before your scan to encourage your baby to be active.
There are lots of different ways that you can reveal your baby’s gender to make it special for you. It is possible to purchase a range of souvenir items from us such as confetti cannons, balloons, powder balls and heartbeat bears when you attend your appointment.

You will encounter the amazing experience of seeing your little one playing and hopefully performing for you. Witnessing for the first time, your baby yawning and smiling and revealing their little character…will he/she be cheeky or shy, resemble Mummy or Daddy?…It is so exciting to find out and build on your relationship of affection and love.
As two highly experienced midwife sonographers, we pride ourselves on acquiring the best miracle views of your little one together with enhancing your baby scan experience with our informative and relaxed approach helping you to fully understand what you are seeing.
Your private pregnancy scan will allow plenty of time for your baby to perform for you but to improve the quality of the images we recommend for your 4D scan is booked between 24-32 weeks of pregnancy when they have more space to move around. We do recommend twin 4D scans are carried out between 22-26 weeks gestation. Any later, they may get too snug which can affect the quality of the images.
Sometimes, babies are shy and like to hide. Don’t worry, we will try to encourage them to move but if your little one remains shy despite our best efforts on the first consultation, we will book a further scan free of charge.

Here at Miracle View, we appreciate you may not have seen you baby since your NHS 12 week dating scan or 20 week anomaly scan and mighty gain reassurance from knowing how your baby is growing. With this in mind, we have tailored a private pregnancy scan, that whilst non-diagnostic, will provide an estimate of baby’s weight by measuring your baby’s head, abdomen and femur. We will also assess signs of well being, such as the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding your baby, blood flow through the umbilical cord and fetal movements.
The vast majority of pregnancies are trouble free for mother and baby. The extensive knowledge and skills we have acquired from working in early pregnancy and specifically fetal medicine are unrivalled in our insight of high risk pregnancies. Our past/current specialisms have included lead midwife sonographer for pre-term , small for gestational age and multiple pregnancy along with lead midwife for diabetes in pregnancy in NHS settings. We are well prepared to liaise with local NHS Hospitals to facilitate on going care if necessary. To truly make this premium scan bundle aligned to your own personal pregnancy journey, we allow you to choose which baby scans are included. For example, it may be that you have already had your dating scan and therefore you may wish to focus your package around scans in the latter two trimesters.
